Countdown to National

Okay, I leave for Atlanta in a week and a day. I’ve been trying not to think about it, because as much as I’m looking forward to it, it means my summer is almost over. But now is time to buckle down.

In my spare bedroom, I have outfits strewn all over the bed. I figure I need:

1) An outfit to meet my agent in on Wednesday. I’m thinking I can wear the same outfit on Thursday, to save room in my teeny suitcase, which fits in my teeny car. I have this gorgeous Liz Claiborne dress I bought two years ago, that I’ve only worn once. I can’t wear it to school, so I’m thinking it would be good.

2) My WNP shirt and a pair of capris or jeans to wear to the booksigning. I can wear the same to the WNP get-together on Thursday afternoon. Anyone else bringing jeans?

3) An outfit for The Golden Network reception – the outfit I bought two years ago no longer fits. I have some nice dress palazzo pants and a grey velvet shell. Do you think that will work?

4) An outfit for Friday, during which I do my workshop and the Golden Heart reception. I was planning on my turquoise peasant skirt and matching beaded blouse, but it may be too casual. I have a pretty black skirt with pink ribbon around the hem, but the shoes I have for that are excruciating, or will be if I wear them for 6 hours. I may save that outfit for Saturday. What do you think of the turquoise? Maybe if I find dressier shoes….

5) An outfit for Saturday, which includes my editor appt. and rehearsal for the GH. Okay, black and pink skirt here, maybe. I would only have to wear the shoes for a couple of hours, and none of those standing on my feet trying to be brilliant. I have to see if I can find a pink shell…

6) My GH outfit, for which I just bought the necklace and earrings.

Mind you, I have, other than the above-mentioned, three outfits lain out on the bed.

Okay, on top of packing, this week I have to

1) color my hair
2) get my eyebrows done
3) get the boy some shoes and his dad some pants
4) take change jar to the bank (hey, it’s full, and it could buy me some t-shirts at Midnight Madness)
5) work on a fake tan
6) whiten teeth
7) pick up clothes from cleaners
8) do nails
9) get a bra!!
10) get dog and cat food for the animals left behind (my mom will check on them and water my plants)
11) microdermabrasion – one of those home kits
12) laundry
13) grocery shopping
14) oh yeah – GET READY for workshop!! I’ve broken it down into two subgroups a day. That’s manageable, right?

I’m sure there’s more I’m missing.

What do you have to do to get ready?

OMG. You're so organized! I planned on throwing stuff together the night before. And I don't even know the schedule yet... was gonna take the sessions as they come.

Now I'm really worried.

Setph : )

Your list is very much like mine, although I've just had to add a bunch of housecleaning and yard work to the mix since hubby's dad, grandma and brother are coming down to visit next weekend. Busy, busy week ahead.

I still have to figure out my pitches. Ack!!

I'm going to miss it this year more than last! I'll be cheering for you on GH day.

Stephanie, if I waited till the last minute, I would go out of my mind! I'm a little manic with making sure I have the right necklace and shoes for each outfit. I don't know why I'm obsessed with that ;)

As for the sessions, I have an Excel spreadsheet with all the events that I HAVE to do, like our workshop and my editor appt, the GH activities, the social activities and the workshops. Color coded (Where's Robyn? She would be so proud!)

Okay, wow, I'm freaking myself out!

Stacy and Mary Beth, we'll miss you!!!! I would love to meet you in person!

Michelle, good luck with your pitches!

Normally? I'm like you. My spreadsheets would be all done up, my schedule at least tentatively planned. My wardrobe considered and filled in with careful shopping.

This year? I have a complete jumble in my head whereby occasionally an item floats to the surface, a la "don't forget you have to see Jody somewhere in there..." and "maybe the brown shirt?"

Plus I have two kids to get packed for a two-week vacation. They leave two days before I do. First things first. That means laundry. LOL

LOL, I am so unorganized this year, too. I've not put anything together for nationals yet. I may just print out Mary's list & go with that--except the fake tan part & I'm so white I'd only have that QT tan glow if I attempted. ;)

LOL--I was just like this last year!!! It is fun to think about what you might need.

Instead I have to pack for 5 weeks in the UK, with 2 kids and for two weddings, with 2 cases???

It's sad... I had to print out your list because I'm so behind. Thanks for the help though :-)

My head is spinning.

I've not done anything either. Finally opened the session book tonight to see when things are happening. Then I closed it again without looking too closely.

Ack! Now I'm gonna stress.

I'm a stand-in for my CP who is a GH finalist but can't attend. Talk about being kept in the dark. Guess I need to email her and find out just what exactly I'm supposed to do. ;)

Okay, you guys are making me feel better! Natalie, thank goodness, I don't have to worry about my guys. They're coming with me. They pack their own stuff. The only thing I worry about is what my dh will wear GH night. I don't think he can fit in his suit anymore.

Janice, I'm pretty darn pale this year, too. Remember how badly sunburned I got last year? Scared me. So I have that Oil of Olay lotion that has tanner in it. I don't need to be dark, just not white.

TWO CASES, Toni??? Now there's a nightmare!!! Can you do laundry over there, I hope?

April, LOL on printing out my list! Can't wait to meet you!

Elizabeth, Friday afternoon (3:00 to 4:00) is when the GH finalists get their certificates, and Saturday afternoon is when we have practice. I don't know what time, though. I'll keep an eye out for you!

I make a list. Actually I make several lists. Just not this year since I'm not going, but in my head, I'm already starting the one for next year...
