Movie reviews

Since finishing Hot Shot (for the billionth time), I've watched a LOT of movies. So I thought I'd grace you with my reviews.

King Kong - good, too many close ups of Jack Black (I know, how could this be?), pretty manic action. I've read reviews that the NY scenes were the weakest, but they were my favorite. Lots of bugs, lots of vertigo-inducing shots. LOTS of deus ex machina. I wasn't expecting Kyle what's-his-name from Early Edition, though. No good previews!

Narnia - good, cool effects, especially the lion. And the minotaurs were pretty cool. Can you believe one of my students had to remind me of that word? They showed the preview for Pirates, though!

On DVD:

Fantastic Four - wasn't. I think it's because their powers are a little, well, wimpy. And Reed Richards? Can we say bland? I don't care if it was Ioan Gryffod.

Sky High - not too bad, actually. Kind of a Spy Kids meets X-Men meets Harry Potter. More Spy Kids than the others, with some Power Rangers thrown in. Good soundtrack.

Valiant - why I wanted to see this I don't know. I don't like birds. The good news is that it's just over an hour.

War of the Worlds - I expected to despise this. I actually really really liked it. Never could forget that Tom Cruise was Tom Cruise, though.

March of the Penguins - I'm buying this.

This week - Serenity, Must Love Dogs and Brothers Grimm on DVD!

Mar...I've seen Walk the Line three times so far. I can't get enough of that film. Haven't seen King Kong yet, that is next. Did you get to see Pride and Prejudice? That's on my agenda.

I haven't seen Walk the Line yet - will wait for DVD. Want to see P&P with mom, don't know when. But then that's it for me, probably till May!

Peggy, let me know what you think of the NY scenes. I really liked them.

I love movies with cool special effects. So I know I'll likely enjoy Kong and Narnia.

Fantastic 4 didn't have the greatest acting, but the kids loved the super heroes. =D And I felt the same about War of the Worlds!

Kelly, I know if the ds had been younger, he would have felt the same about the superheroes. I'm just so spoiled by the X-Men and Spiderman....

Hope you enjoy Narnia and Kong!

I haven't seen anything since going to see Harry Potter, unless you count a couple of old movies on VHS and Queen of the Damned on TV.

I think when I get these revisions done, I'm going to see Brokeback Mountain. I've heard great things about it, and I'd like to see it before the Oscar noms come out.

Aren't movies a great reward for revisions? I have a few more tweaks to Hot Shot, per Emily, so I'm closing Surface again and getting to work. They're pretty small, though. Thank heavens!

Forgot to say, at the risk of being politically incorrect, I have no desire to see Brokeback Mountain.

I want to see both Narnia and KK. I'm hopeful. My dh just watched War of the Worlds last night. I'll have to watch it later I had too much other things to do.

I couldn't forget he was Tom C either, Mary. The man is a nutjob. I'm sorry. He's totally gone.

Yeah, Tanya, it's kinda sad. I was never a Tom C fan, but I never thought he was so cuckoo.

Still not sure I want to see Kong but we're going to see Narnia for Christmas Eve!

I got Serenity on DVD for Christmas and I think the kids got me movies too.

Watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith last night--the beginning kinda dragged but once they found out they were both spies/assassins it was GREAT! I watched WOTW at Thanksgiving and I thought it was awesome! I do wanna see Brokeback but I'll probably wait for DVD, same for Walk the Line since the kids have no interest in seeing it.

Cece, you HAVE to see Kong. It's really spectacular.

I bought Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but loaned it to my folks, so I haven't seen it yet. Also bought Serenity. I never did get to Pride and Prejudice, and now the only place it's playing is across town at odd times.
