Countdown to Nano...oh noes

So I plotted my Nano Bodyguard story with my critique group. I took a storyboard to school and showed my kids. I have the pictures for the collage cut out and haven't had time to put them together, but....

Yesterday I got another idea. A historical idea. Right in the middle of teaching social studies, reading about Jane Long.

There is no time to storyboard this one. I would be going by the seat of my pants, again. I would be writing something I've never written before. I don't know names or external conflicts. I know she's widowed and taking care of her sisters-in-law and he's a widower looking for a new start in a new country (1830 Texas.) I see them both clearly, and have a few scenes, but....do I have enough?

Does it matter? I did Spy Girl with less (not even names!) but it ended up a mess, though I love the basic idea. But if I don't write this one, I'm afraid it's going to prevent me from doing a good job on the bodyguard one.

I have two days. Let me see what I can get done.

Oh, and the time? Yes, I'm really up at 3:47. The dh came to bed at 2, stood looking at the ceiling fan, said, "That's about to come down," then turned out the light and went to bed.

Guess who sleeps under the ceiling fan? Guess who couldn't go back to sleep?

You should go with the book in your heart. You have the pre-writing for the other one. You can always do it later.

We had a ceiling fan come down once, but it wasn't over the bed. It was still scary.

What did he say that for!?

Oh, my, I love that poster. :)

You know, I bet you could whip together enough basics for the historical to work on it during NaNo. One of these years, it'll work out so I can do NaNo. I always seem to be traveling in November.

Liz, you're right - I've got 3000 words so far!

Natalie, I KNOW! Does he NOT know who he's married to?

I took your advice, Trish. I've cobbled together some plot and did some research, though the names took the longest.

Hey, if you can do revisions only being home 12 days in a month, you can do Nano ;)

I love that poster, too ;)

I did a bad thing and brought my school laptop home. I'll use that until my laptop is fixed. And last year, you CREAMED me, so at least I have a headstart this year ;)

I said it then, and I'll say it now--I don't have the day job you do! All that matters is if you win.

So far, you're giving me a great challenge. I always do better when people are ahead of me!

Be warned, though. I'm aiming to beat my record last year, which was something like 89,105.

Wow. I can't imagine doing that much so quickly! I like to be challenged, too. I'm doing a word war with one of my CPs once the Nano website settles down. Like I said to Marianne, I was proud of myself to see what she'd done by the time I got home from the grocery store!
