Memorial Day Holiday
see more Lolcats and funny pictures
I can't remember the last time I've had Memorial Day off. Lately, it's been during the last week of school, so the powers-that-be figured, well, why? But last year I ended the day with 8 students on Memorial Day--they were either absent or checked out early. So the PTB decided to give it to us this year, which means the teachers have to finish up the year on Saturday (the third time in my 21 years that we've done that.)
No big plans, even though the dh has two days off in a row, which never happens. A little shopping, a little napping, a little writing. Yesterday I finished my writing goals for the weekend by one o'clock, but still felt guilty for not working last night.
Today, it's back to Queen.
What are your Memorial Day plans?

I'm scrubbing the bathroomtop to bottom - literally. We have this nasty mildew that creeps out on the ceiling so I've been up on a ladder with the bleach spray.
Hubby and both daughters had to work so I felt guilty lazing around.
I did sleep in and then spend a lazy hour with my coffee reading The Red Pyramid. It's embarrassing when your students read it faster than you do, but I haven't been able to get into this as much as Percy Jackson. It's starting to pick up though.
Congrats on the last week. We've still got 3 to go.
Srsly, they made you have school on Memorial Day? That's insane! Not to mention disrespectful.
Texas is so messed up. ;)
Boy, Mary, you know how to party ;) Seriously, you need to read Hunger Games. Maybe too deep for the kids, but dang.
Natalie, for years and years, school got out before the end of May, so Memorial Day was never an issue. The past 5, I think, we've gone into June, but since it's always the last week of school, they'd just have school anyway. This year we were off. Weird, since we're a military town.
Finishing the school year in May is still weird to me, but the progression makes sense. Kind of. I mean, it's still a Federal holiday, and the first real one most of us get for five months! LOL
Anyway, glad you finally got it off this year, but sorry it means you have to go in on a Saturday. I'm pretty sure our school district would push it to Monday, but don't know that that's any better.
We used to go back earlier in August--one year we went back on July 31! And Monday was out of the question--summer school starts Tuesday and the summer school teachers need to get ready. It wasn't bad, really. I was done by 9:30 and we looked at magazines and talked until we left for the luncheon, which was fun.
