40 More Days of School
And I love my kids, but I'm READY. This time change is beating me into the ground. And the end of the year is so frantic. Today 5th grade tests in math, so we have to be extra quiet. Then in 2 weeks, we test in math. After that, it's paperwork, field trips and count downs (oh, yeah, I'm doing that already.) At the same time, I'm freaking out because it's not ENOUGH time to do all the things I want to do. Some teachers think summer vacation starts as soon as the TAKS is over, but I'm worried my kids aren't strong enough in math skills and writing for 4th grade. Plus, it would be nice to do something FUN for a change.
Only 4 more days of tutoring! THAT'S the best part. When I taught 5th grade, we had to tutor till 2 weeks before summer!

Yeah, you may be ready, but your ready means I've got to deal with my kids for the summer. ARGH! Three in the house whining about how bored they are. The fights. The messes they don't clean up. The phone ringing off the hook. The revolving front door. Do you see why I LOVE the school year?
Tanya
Here's hoping the 40 days speed by for you, Mary :)
Mary, I also hope 40 days will pass quickly for you! I remember I loved summers when I was teaching college. More free time and wonderful weather - what else can one ask for?
Geez, we haven't even had spring break yet. We don't get out of school until mid-June. I can understand your excitement. I'm already developing a tic for what I'm going to do with my three demons this summer.
LOL, Tanya, and at the end of summer, you'll be counting down and I'll be the one saying, "NOOOOOO!!!"
Bonnie, today the bus bell rang, catching me completely by surprise, and even the kids were, "How did THAT happen?" The day just flew. We have a rule in our class, though, that you can't say the day's going by fast....that jinxes it. So if a kid says "fast," the others say, "He said the F-word!" I'm waiting for the principal to walk in on that one.
Stacy, I probably won't start marking Xs till May. I really do love my kids, but I'm ready for ME time.
Olga, beautiful and HOT weather! I hope I can find something for my son and I to do so we don't just sit around the AC...okay, so HE doesn't just sit around the AC.
Ugh, Rene! Y'all probably go back after Labor Day, right? After next year, we're supposed to, as well, but now we go back mid-August.
woo hoo mary! 40 days is definitely doable. Good luck getting your kids up to snuff on their writing skills! You can do it and so can they!
Thanks, Mary Beth. The other thing I'm pushing for is for them to TURN IN THEIR WORK! Heavens, we're having a struggle with that. If it takes more than a day, they lose it! Even with their seatwork folders.
LOL, Jessie, that's Maria Bello, from History of Violence, ER when it was good ;) and Coyote Ugly. She's actually who I modelled the heroine of Hot Shot after. They're making a movie in Vancouver called Butterfly on a Wheel. Pierce Brosnan is the baddie.
