If I Were a Rich (Wo)Man
I’ve heard two different quotes on how much money JK Rowling made in royalties from sales just in one day: either $36 million or $44 million.
Really, at that point, what difference is $8 mil?
So after I wondered if she’d ever write anything else after Book 7 (because even if she blows the dough from this book, she’ll still be stinking rich), I wondered what I would do with that kind of money.
Disclaimer:
This is complete fantasy so I’m going to be completely selfish. In reality, I’d buy houses for the whole family, a jet so we could see each other more often, etc. But it’s my blog, so this is about me.
As much as I love my house, I’d have to sell it, or move it. The reason is that I need more garage space. This is going to sound weird, but I would collect classic cars. Classic SUVs.
I actually have one like this, a Land Cruiser FJ-60.
I want one like this, like Keanu Reeves drove in Speed.
And I love the old Cherokees.
But I saw one of these at the grocery store and wouldn’t say no.
And since I’m moving into a new house, I’d like one with one of those patio kitchens, you know?
May as well have a pool and a view as not, right?
And I'd have this home office set-up, from Pottery Barn:
In addition to that house, maybe an apartment in Battery Park, overlooking this:
And a room in the El Tovar overlooking this.

Love your ideas for how to spend the money. Okay, my needs are simple, I want a bigger house - espeically one where I don't have to share my computer with dh and 2 children.
And a maid to clean the bigger house.
And I'd like the chef that Oprah has who makes only healthy but utterly delicious food.
Okay, actually my needs aren't so simple.
Okay, I'm pretty content where I am in my life now...but...if we're dreaming about being impossibly rich...can I steal your pool with a view? The private jet would be nice to vacation to exotic places...A nice vacation home in Colorado. A house on an island. Heck a private island. Sigh.
See, once you start, it's hard to stop, right? I'm happy where I am, too (though I would like a cleaning lady and to be going to Reno). I mean, I live in this neighborhood I NEVER thought I'd be able to live in, have 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a huge kitchen and a sunroom. I'd never be able to buy this house in today's market. But I'm just thinking....to make MILLIONS of dollars in ONE DAY.

If I had her money, I would buy an apartment overlooking the Thames in London, establish a scholarship with my RWA chapter so that a deserving member could go to National, a scholarship named after my parents at my old high school, and another scholarship at my drama school, plus a new apartment because I need a walk-in closet for all my new shoes.

Oh Gads you'll be so sorry you asked this. I want your kitchen and the room in El Tovar. Where IS El Tovar? who cares the view is amazing. I want a trainer and breast reduction surgery when I'm finished getting skinny.
And you can have your classic SUV's, I'm strictly a muscle car kinda gal and yes, I'd be collecting those bad boys *drool drool drool*.
Scholarships for my kids and my nephews. Now back to me...Definitely a maid--who cooks. and a boy toy to clean my pool. And gimme massages.

Cece, El Tovar is on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Spectacular place, but very busy. You have to book at least 6 months in advance.
Yes, I like muscle cars, too. My brother had a 68 Firebird. It was beautiful.
Hmm...if I had JK's cashola...
I'd make sure all my family was secure, I'd help my friends out of their troubles. I'd get a big house at the beach and live there. Preferably Fernandina, Florida, Pensacola, Florida, or South Padre Island...or, Coronado, California. My four fav spots. I'd create my own little publishing empire and be CEO and Lead Editor, and publish all the books out there that are bold and cutting-edge. I'd create and fund a new foundation to support research and treatment for brain disorders. I'd set up poverty centers in smaller cities where help is harder to come by, and focus not only on current aid, but on helping those in need get the medical treatment and education they need to pull it together and be able to make it in this world. Damn, I'd do a lot of things. And I'd have a helluva great time doing it.
Wish it could happen.
