Throw Me a Bone!
This business of publishing should come with a disclaimer: “Long periods of wait punctuated by bad news, with the occasional bone tossed to keep the writer in the game.”
I’m ready for my bone. This year, I’ve had 3 bones, I think. Yep, 3 bones since January (and heaven knows how long before that). One final, one editor request and one agent request. Although, maybe the editor request doesn’t count since she requested it in December, but it was with another editor until that editor left.
I always have submissions out, and if not submissions, I have contest entries. Of course, the more stuff I have out, the more chances for disappointment, right?
It’s enough to get a girl down, especially after a certain amount of success. I mean, if I’d never gotten a request, never finalled, would I be so let down? I dunno. But I’m ready for some good news. I’ll take anything.
So much Gerry, so little time.

Mary,
Sending you good vibes so that you hear some good news real soon! I think you're due :)
Bonnie
Thanks, Bonnie!
Ah...Another Gerry fan! Woot! Glad to have found you. Good luck on all the things you have out!
Michelle
What would I do Mary, without my Gerald fix? Great picture. Are you sure you're not on Gerry's payroll? He should take you out to lunch for being such a great fan. Hope you hear something good soon!
{{{Mary}}} I hope good news comes your way soon.
Thanks, Michelle, Elizabeth and Mary Beth.
Elizabeth, if Gerry every took me to lunch, I'd be a blithering idiot. But it would be payment enough to look at him ;)
I'm hoping you get really good news really soon. What all do you have out there now?
Thanks, Trish. I have Hot Shot with 2 agents and with Patience Smith, since it finalled in the Sheila. I have Beneath the Surface with Susan Litman. And I have Hot Shot in the Maggies and Put Your Heart in a Book. I have Surface in the Mollys and Where the Magic Begins. I have Smoke in PASIC. I'm getting my WIP ready for either Hot Prospects or Gateway to the Rest.
Fingers crossed for some big bones coming your way! :)
(Michelle drags her mind OUT of the gutter)
Thanks, Michelle. I did get an email from that agent who has my partial and she said she's swamped but will get to me when she can, so while that's not good news per se, it's not bad news.
Hang in, Mar. I went to the mailbox today and found my ms returned by HI, with a short, curt note from an ed. asst. that said it was not right for them, and they don't have time to tell me why due to the volume of submissions. I'd expect a letter like that to a newbie, but not at this point in my work. But it is what it is. Scott took me to Taco Bell for consolation. I'm sitting here at the end of three very stressful days personally, and this is the topper of the day. SO unfun. THREE OF SWORDS is the best I know how to do at this point. Makes me wonder what to do next. But you got it going, Mar, I know you do...just hang in, and it will come.
JoAnn <---who deeply thanks Mar for the Gerard pics...I really need them today!
As usual, you have lots of stuff out there working. That's the key. Keep it out there and eventually something will hit. And I'll do the big ol' Snoopy dance when it does.
JoAnn, sorry about your R and your stressful days. I hope good news is just around the corner.
Bad, BAD word, JoAnn. Wow, now I know how you felt when I got rejected. Just this helpless anger. Sounds like a blasted form letter, too. Grr.
Okay, we must strategize next step....excellent first person suspense with paranormal elements. Any thoughts?
Oh, and J, you need to watch TR2 tonight.
Trish, LOL on the Snoopy dance. I heard Cindy Dees say she just kept sending and sending and sending, hoping the HQ slush pile was like a digestive tract, that something would eventually come out of it. Gross analogy, but one I've adopted.
I think you and Cindy have the right idea. And first-person suspense with paranormal elements -- I like it. :)
I need to get through the personal family stuff before I can even think of submitting to someone else. I did have plans of going for an ebook submission if HI didn't bite, but I just don't have the energy to do anything like that at the moment. Maybe when the other things clear. Thanks for the support, guys. It means a lot to me.
JoAnn
JoAnn, you know I'm here if you need me. You have my number. I'm praying everything clears up on that end.
