Absence makes the heart grow fonder

After I got my request from the agent for Hot Shot, I set DLB aside, thinking Hot Shot would be the quicker manuscript to get out the door. Then my mother-in-law got sick and visiting the hospital has thrown my schedule for a loop, exhausted all of us, and kept me away from DLB even longer.

But now it's 10 days later, Hot Shot is mailed and I'm back on DLB. My goal is to mail it by Friday.

By the time I mailed Hot Shot last Wednesday, I hated it. I had been over every word, knew scenes practically by heart. I was so sick of this story.

But I am loving DLB. I have the first half pretty darn clean, but every now and again I get an idea and go back to page 20 or something and layer it in. I love the story, love the characters, am excited about the changes I'm making. I can't wait to get to the computer, am jealous of anything that takes me away from it. (Even TV) I may even mourn when I mail it. I don't know if it's because it's new and fresh and Hot Shot has been in different versions for the past five years, or that I've been away from DLB for almost two weeks, but wherever this energy is coming from, I appreciate it.

I know that feeling of being sick of a manuscript, but glad you're excited about DLB.

I know about being sick of an ms, too...by the time I was done with the early chapters of TOS, I never wanted to see them again! But by the time I was done, I really missed that novel. It took until GOTN to get me to move past the mourning! I'm so glad you're happy with DLB, Mar...being inspired like that is simply one of the best feelings in the world.

Hugs,
J

I concur with everyone else . . . I am all too familiar with that feeling of being sick of the manuscript when I've looked at it too many times.

I came up with a totally new twist this morning, just before we headed out to breakfast and the hospital. I was writing in my notebook at the restaurant! I never do that!

Yay Mary! I need to find the energy.

Mary, yay! Sorry about hospital stuff, but congrats on having such energy for DLB! And best of luck to Hot Shot! I hope you'll sell!

Thanks, Olga and Mary Beth! I think part of the desire is knowing I have no time to do anything about it! I just made major changes in DLB this weekend, have to go back to work tomorrow, leaving everyone hanging! Then back to the hospital...why do I have to sleep???
