Finding the Perfect Woman

What do you do when you have this larger than life hero but you can't find the perfect woman for him? I usually start with the hero, though most of my books are the heroine's story. But have you ever been writing along and saying to yourself, "This one isn't the right one for him?" How do you fix it? Do you visualize her in a different way? Change her name? Or change her completely?

What does it take to be a heroine for a larger than life hero?

The field trip wasn't bad yesterday - it was interesting to see the different styles of practice for the 2 teams. And the game last night was fun, though we walked 3/4 of the way around the ATT Center to get to our seats, then decided we wanted Whataburger, so had to go back down. We were still in our seats (near heaven, somewhere) by the National Anthem. And we talked almost the whole time!

New Supernatural tonight - whoo!!!!!

My NaNo novel... ugh. About halfway through, I realized that my hero was with the entirely wrong woman. BUT, being stubborn, I didn't want to start over and I finished the blasted thing even though I knew I'd have to trash it. He's a great guy. I made him a new heroine and even started writing it, but couldn't face it after the fiasco from before. He's shelved for now.

Thankfully, I usually try to build them together and that was the first time something like that had ever happened to me. It's the pits.

I hope you're able to figure out what you need to do!

I have a project I just have to set aside, because I am in love with the hero, but not the heroine. This is the fourth time I've revisited this book, and I'm finally convinced that despite the good start, it is not one that I will see to the finish. This disappoints me, but I have to face facts. I am the type of writer who has to have the heroine very firmly in my heart and mind first. The hero comes easily to me. With this knowledge in place, it's brainstorming time.

I change her completely. I revamp he whole character, and use the one now in a different story. And I figure out who the heroine needs to be by figuring out what the big conflicts are. Sometimes I have to write a lot of pages to get a good handle on that, but eventually it happens. At least, I think it happens.
I love larger than life heroes, but they do take special women. I don't think there's any one thing about them though. Catherine Mann's heroes are LTL. So are Suzanne Brockmann's. So are many of SEP's. And all have had heroines across the spectrum, but they got under the hero's skin and made him face the issues he's often hiding from and they made the hero work for it. Does that make sense?
Nine weeks until school is out!

Marianne, I thought I remembered that --- so you finished writing it with the wrong heroine? That's dedication! But you have a new one now?

JoAnn, noooooo!!!!! I LOVE DAMIEN!!!! We just need to find him the right woman.

I teared up a bit, Trish, but not as much as during Gilmore Girls - the Luke and Lorelei breakup! SOB! (I know, I KNEW it was going to happen, but....)

Mary Beth, LOL - yep, 46 more days. Hey, I'm going to make a countdown!

You're right, those larger-than-life guys need the right woman. I'm listening to A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and I can't stand Clair, but love Jamie. Even so, I can't imagine another woman for him!
