Goals
First of all - look! I slept till 6:15! Okay, not entirely true - I woke up at 4, but went back to bed and fell asleep.
Today is my favorite day of the year. Right now, every minute of summer vacation is in front of me. I haven't wasted any of it.
I'm a big believer in goals, and I was planning to list my goals for the summer, as well as the schedule I want to have every day. Only I started, well, kind of getting anxious about it. I mean, it's my VACATION. Do I really want to put myself under that kind of stress? Yes, I want to try to write a book in a month as a challenge, just to see if I can do it. But do I want to add my house cleaning and exercising and all that and write it down? Will I be setting myself up for failure?
I do know I write more and better if I have a schedule.
What about you guys who are writing full time? Do you have a set schedule? Do you feel guilty if you don't follow it?

I don't write full time but I do have a schedule. I write for 2 hours every morning before work. Although when I do write full time I have that schedule already figured out (the power of positive thinking right...?) - write from 7 am to 12 pm, eat lunch, run errands, do research from 2-4, workout, rest of day free.
Woohoo!! You're on va-cation! You're on va-cation!! (Ok, that's enough singing for me...)
I stay at home and write as much as I can, but no matter what, real life gets in the way. I set goals for myself, and when I don't meet them, I get upset. So, I just try to write as much as I can, when I can.
Good luck this summer with your writing!
Enjoy your summer Mary!
I do better with goals IF I try achieving them. :-)
I try to write 10 pages each day, but I adjust that if I have to travel or if freelance work comes in that takes priority because it actually pays me something. :) I try to get the writing done first so that I can have the rest of the day free to do whatever needs to be done.
Thanks, Peggy! You're right about the deadlines - why push yourself? My agent still hasn't read my revisions on DLB and I haven't even sent her Surface. So why push myself, right?
Kelly, this week and last I've been working on the books before work. The schedule I'd have, if I'd have one, would be to wake up, check email and eat breakfast, clean house till the dh leaves for work, go for a walk, come home and take Alphie out back and write till the boy wakes up. After lunch, I'd take a nap, then have the rest of the day free if I've met my pages. If not, I'd start writing again.
Thanks, Dana! Pesky life getting in the way - already I won't have a day to myself till Tuesday. And I know the boy will be wanting to practice with his band, and I want to go to museums and stuff with him, have an end of the year party, go to an end of the year party....
Thanks, Mary Beth! How is your summer going?
Trish, I think I'm going to try your schedule. It may not work - I may need to write at night instead.
Nice picture... Was there a question too? Oh yeah... goals. I don't write full time. I have a "general" idea of where I want to be by a certain date on whatever I'm working on. But I don't set it in stone because then I get too focused on the goal and I get stressed!
Can't wait for the pictures!
I think this is the first day in two weeks I've actually felt like (and gotten any) writing (done). I guess I need to work on getting up early but dayum!
LOL, April - look, I'm already stressed out, and I've only been off a weekend!!!
Not an early bird, huh, Cece? I finally slept till 7 today!
