Guys Don't Get Phantom
My dh came home with dinner right before the unmasking scene in Phantom, so we finished watching while we ate dinner. Besides making fun of Gerry (and Patrick - "Why doesn't he fight back??"), he was cracking me up. "So, how come they go FORWARD in time and turn into black and white? Are they back in Kansas?" And then I was explaining Julie Ortolon's theory that the Phantom isn't a person per se, that he symbolizes fame, and Christine has to choose between fame and love, and he said, "Yeah, nice, but here's the reason - Chicks dig scars."
Sheesh.

Mary,
Every time I try and watch a movie like Phantom, DH makes his eternal, "Oh, that's girls" remark. "That's girls" means it's a chick flick. Or anything related to "women" he says, "That's girls" and then dismisses it. LOL! Men just don't get it, ya know?
Whatever the case, Gerard could wear a trashbag and I'd still watch him. :-)
Tanya
I haven't actually seen this yet :)
Tanya, between my dh and my teenaged son, I rarely get to watch chick flicks. I still have While You Were Sleeping in shrink wrap. Legally Blonde, too. But yeah, Gerry in anything. I'll even suffer through Timeline a few times.
Bonnie, get thee to the Blockbuster! Although as I was watching it, I was thinking it was awfully creepy and I probably never would have seen it if not for Gerry.
LOL! My husband liked the musical Phantom because of Andrew Lloyd Weber's music, but he wasn't big on the story either.
You know what? I think men don't like POTO because it makes them uneasy to watch another man need a woman that deeply. :) It's like unmasking one of their secrets they don't like to share with the general population. I could be wrong.
JoAnn
JoAnn, I think you hit the nail on the head.
Well, it's been a long day, so I'm headed for bed.
Mary
