In keeping with the book theme...
I have a tremendous TBR pile. Around 200 books. On one shelf are the books I will likely read next. How do I choose? This is going to sound terrible. I choose the book I'm not sure I'll like. That way, if I don't like it and pass it on, I can go to the next book and eventually I'll get through the stack.
Yeah, in about 10 years.
How do you choose which book to read next?
(I had a really good idea for a blog post when I woke up. Where is it? No idea.)
Sorry, Marianne ;)

Choosing can be difficult.
Since I'm likely making a choice between stories I want to read, I'll usually go for the type of story I'm most in the mood for at the time :)
Depends. I try to switch off between reading friends' books and books by other authors. And sometimes I'll read books that are from the same type of writing I'm doing at the moment to get inspired. And other times are dictated by when requested books arrive at the library. For instance, I'm reading Janet Evanovich's Twelve Sharp at the moment because my hold finally came up at the library and I have to get it back by the due date because someone else has a hold on it and I can't recheck it.
I don't know how I pick my next book. It's hard.
Usually, I'm in a streak: like, reading historicals, so I'll pick up a historical. Or, if I'm in the mode to try something different, I'll pick up someone I've never read or a genre that I hadn't been reading (eg, a romantic suspense if the last few books have been historicals).
I don't have a rhyme or reason. I will say that I reread enough books, and when I've been disappointed by books that I've read (or started to read and haven't finished), I'll pick up one of my "comfort reads" or "comfort authors" and read one of those--as if to assure myself that there are good books out there that, instead of having me roll my eyes, make me laugh or fall in love.
I never have time to reread anymore - my TBR is SCARY, and even if I'd weed it out, there would be 100 books I want to read.
