Outlining
I spent yesterday outlining Don't Look Back. When I talked to my agent on Thursday, she said the book was too complex, and the only solution I could see to that was to strip it down to bare bones. It took all day and 6 pages. I sent it to her to see what she thinks and hopefully most of it can be salvaged.
Then I read the RWR article about outlining before you write a book. Even though I thought the tone was a little harsh, I'm going to try this. I have enough of both Midnight Sun and my dream book to get started. She said you don't have to know the whole book, so I'm taking her at her word. While I wait for Emily, I'm going to play with it, and we'll see what comes.
I may have used this picture before, but it's good enough to repeat.
Oh, and I remembered another favorite couple! Mal and Inara from Firefly!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the RWR article was a tad harsh: Do this, do that. I hate that kind of stuff.
Also, I'm reading The Stone Prince by Gena Showalter, too.
Are we on the same wavelength or what> :)
Yeah, Michele, it was pretty bossy. LOL on us both reading The Stone Prince!
Stacy, good luck with your outline. I ended up with 1000 words on the dream story today.
I haven't read the article but I will now :) I love planning and plotting. Good luck with stripping and rebuilding your plot. I'm working on a syn so I can enter a contest.
I read the Stone Prince when it came out--don't tell Gena but it didn't really grab me. And she's so lovely I wanted it to!
THe pic of Gerard...oh...yessss....
Sigh.
Yes, that was a bossy article. I am not brainless, chica who wrote it! I can absorb the info just fine without the bossiness.
On the other hand, I read an EXCELLENT article by a certain Trish, where a certain Mary was interviewed. THAT one was a masterpiece.
Hugs,
J
Joanna, you're so sweet to say that about my article. I STILL haven't received my RWR. :( If I don't get it tomorrow, I'm going to contact RWA.
Mary, I'm so sad that we'll never get to follow through and see what would have happened between Mal and Inara, and Kaylee and Simon for that matter, because they're not going to do any more Firefly movies. :(
Sending you good vibes on Don't Look Back, Mary :)
Good luck, Mary! Be sure to let us now how it goes!
LOL about Trish's article - it was awesome, wasn't it? A little close to home for me!
Toni, I hate planning and plotting. Now I have 4 books to do this with. Sigh.
Thanks for the vibes, Bonnie and April!
Trish, I loved Mal and Inara. Maybe I'll write their story....someday.
Okay, you're the second person in the last couple of days who mentioned reading the Feb. RWR.
Why haven't I gotten mine? Okay, you probably don't know why. Sorry. But I love reading that, and I just now noticed I didn't get it.
I just blogged about this. I posted a pic of my plotting board. Yeah, Mary. I'm sooooo anal it's not funny. :-)
