Carousel
Birmingham
820 miles.
15 hours.
5 hours of rain.
$90 in gas so far.
$50 in food, counting coffee.
3 more hours tomorrow, free breakfast, one lost hour as we cross the date line.
Don't know if I'll be able to check in from Atlanta.
I finished reading Dressed to Keel - it was AWESOME! Will write a review when I get home. I planned to write one tonight, but am quite tired.
EDITED TO ADD:
There were NO STARBUCKS on the highway from Houston to Hattiesburg. We ended up at a CC's coffeehouse in Covington, and it was okay. But we developed some indicators to see if it was likely a Starbucks would be at a certain exit.
If a Starbucks was likely, you might see:
a book store
an office supply store
Chili's
Lowe's
Target
Outback
If you shouldn't even bother looking, you'd see:
a flea market
buildings made of sheet metal
farm equipment sales
Stuckey's
Waffle House
I hope we can find a Starbucks in Birmingham!

I used to live in Birmingham!! I miss it there so much!! When you come back through give the city a good wave for me.
(I hate living in Oklahoma)
Have a great time!!
Mary--I'm so jazzed that you enjoyed your quirky cruise with DRESSED TO KEEL ~ that's quite the compliment, coming from the mouth of a (insert drum roll and smack those cymbals) GOLDEN HEART contender!!
And, of course, I'm chuckling about your analysis of the towns by way of coffee shops (and Lowe's and Office Depot . . . who needs more?) It is SO true.
Wishing you a safe journey, a Starbucks at every exit . . . and the ability to give your acceptance speech despite dozens of blinding camera flashes!
Wish I could be there to party with the SARA's! Next year--look out!

Dadgum, Mary! If I'd known you were going to be here in Birmingham, I'd have tried to meet you somewhere!
Did you find a Starbucks? I think there's at least one here, but I'm not a coffee drinker, so darned if I know where it might be.
LOL! Love the Starbucks exit criteria.
Birmingham was GORGEOUS! Of course, we saw it at 9 PM and 7 AM...Paula, I hoped you'd be in Atlanta getting the BOOT!
Aw, thanks, Candy! It was a great book! Will blog more when I can find words....the dh was having a conversation with me yesterday and I could only answer in monosyllables.
Will be home tonight.
