Also a crazy week, so I’m dialing back the writing, which makes me feel guilty since I didn’t do a lot last week. I should have finished Queen already, and should be halfway through Midnight Sun, but I cut 3000 words and haven’t made much progress since.

But, this week should (oh please no drama to ruin it) be good:

So Jeffrey Dean Morgan just found out he has a 4 year old son. And they say secret babies never happen in real life.



I've never written a secret baby story because I don't care to write about kids. I do like to write reunion stories (I've done 2 that I can think of) and best friends to lovers stories (written one, want to write another). What are some of your favorite hooks in romance?

I've read through the first 100 pages of Surface and I absolutely agree with the editor's comment about the circular development of the relationship. Yeesh, I beat the reader over the head with it.

I read my Google Reader while on the exercise bike. I rode 18 minutes, but didn't make 5 miles. I guess I can't pedal as fast as I read. But I did multi-task.

TV last night-JDM on Kimmel (only watched the interview), The Office and Grey's Anatomy. JDM is really gorgeous. And I love Sloan and Callie's friendship.

Yesterday was interminable....the kids were taking a writing test. All but 7 were done before lunch. 2 were still working ten minutes before school let out. The rest of the kids were pretty good, so I gave them the night off, no homework. They thought I was awesome. Yeesh, I should do that more often :)

I picked up the ds from school around 5:30 and he drove home after we got dinner (Church's). We were turning into the neighborhood, having assessed the oncoming vehicle was far enough back. And the car in front of us STOPS in the middle of the road to CHAT with the person in the car coming the opposite way! We're hanging in oncoming traffic! I told the ds that THAT was when you use your horn. Yeesh.

So, yeah, I didn't even sit down to write until 7. I'd been home about 20 minutes when the ds called me to get him, since yesterday was tutoring and my last student was picked up 15 minutes late. And then, well, it was Thursday, so I watched The Office and then switched over to Grey's. I had NO idea JDM would be on again! And talking this time! I am so buying this season on DVD. AND he'll be on again for a long-awaited love scene with Izzy.

Only on SPN, we'll have part 2 of last night's episode, and Dean will have a romantic scene with the angel whisperer. And, you know, Supernatural and good vs evil and all that.

I think I'll have to Tivo Grey's and watch SPN. I did lose audio for about 8 minutes on last night's episode of SPN. Was not happy.

Oh, also there's a new Watchmen trailer! Woot!

So anyway, not a lot of writing yesterday. 179 of the words were during lunch, though, and I did delete some stuff, which you aren't supposed to do, but if I can still meet my goal while doing it, why not just make it cleaner? I should be able to get some catching up done today.

Today I'm all over the place. I'm at Samhain at 9 AM and Trish interviewed me about my latest release, Bull by the Horns. Come say hey!

Man, will there be a lot of red on the graph today. I think I wrote 300 words. I can't look. I wanted to take an early out, come home, sleep, then get up and write. I can't take the early out, but I think I'll still nap, then get up and write. Hey, after 3 late nights, I deserve to leave as soon as the last kid is gone. I don't get much work done after that anyway.

Tutoring went well, though. I like working with small groups. I get to know the kids better, and that's always good. We went over word problems and operations and played a game. They loved it.

So, watched The Office (loved the end), then the back half of Grey's. JDM looked GOOD all looming and stuff. Then watched my Tivoed Supernatural. Interesting, again not a favorite, and the Tivo kept freezing. PLEASE let it be the CW messing up an NOT the Tivo! (Speaking of technology the dh did call about my laptop but the guy hasn't called him back! GAH!)

Okay, half an hour to write before I get dressed. I'm off to work!

According to Fandango, The Accidental Husband, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's new rom com with Uma Thurman, is coming out tomorrow. I've not seen a TV trailer at all.

I spent my Blockbuster gift card to rent the last 2 discs of Season 4 of The Office and Love in the Time of Cholera. They're charging $5 to rent DVDs!!! What the....?? I pay less than $15 for the online service and get 2 discs a week when I plan it right, AND I can trade 2 discs a month. Anyway....I had the gift card.

My print books are in Houston...they should be here tomorrow.

Got through a rough new scene yesterday, need to write another new scene, then an old one needs revision. I think after that, though, it will all be new. I watched Dear Frankie for inspiration. I forgot what a sweet movie that is, and the black moment is really good.

Michele was right - PARADE had a 2 page spread with JDM, including a picture I don't have!!! Of course, the ds and dh thought it odd I was buying a paper.....

We went to breakfast, went to the grocery store and raced to unload so we could go see Cloverfield.

I've never been so sick watching anything. All of it is done with a handheld camera, which is Never Still. I didn't realize what was making me sick at first, but the constant motion.....ugh. I ended up only seeing about 1/4 of the movie. I can't watch video games, either, and I think it didn't help that we sat so close. Thankfully the movie is Very Short, less than 90 minutes.

Today I should have my website up and should get my bookmarks ordered.

I've been wanting to do this post since I saw it on Jill's blog, but honestly had trouble coming up with ten things I've never written about. I mean, after twenty books, I've written about single moms, single dads, love triangles, explosions, shoot outs, diving, firefighting, May-December, you name it.

So, ten things you WON'T find in my books:

1) historical settings
2) teenage offspring of the hero or heroine - way to leech out the romance
3) death of any of the following - the hero or heroine, a child, a grandmother or a pet
4) a toilet scene (I can't STAND bathroom scenes in TV shows or movies, and there ALWAYS seems to be one)
5) talky love scenes
6) a hero with a full beard
7) hm, how to put this...love scenes that are...hm....out of the ordinary, like, say, you'd find in EC books
8) a waif heroine
9) the wedding of the main characters, and I don't know why
10) angels (though I've loved the 2 angel books I've read)

This is the verse on the card the dh gave me for our anniversary. He reminds me he didn’t write it, but I thought it was Very Romantic.

Then, romantic fools that we are, after our anniversary dinner at PF Changs (henceforth to be known as Pei-Wei plus 30%), the dh and I went to the library because I had some DVDs and my first graphic novel, The Watchmen (JDM’s next movie), on hold. I ended up checking out 5 CDs – Phantom of the Opera (because I can’t find mine), Rent, Mamma Mia, Van Morrison and Down from the Mountain (the second O Brother Where Art Thou CD). I checked out What’s Up Doc?, The Big Easy and The Commitments, too. Today's not looking very pretty, so it may just be a movie kind of day. Plus I have the first three discs of Dexter.

I’ve gone a little nuts on iTunes the past few weeks. I bought the PS I LOVE YOU soundtrack, “How Do You Know?” from ENCHANTED, “Galway Girl” from Ellis Island, because it was in PS I LOVE YOU, “Gett Off” by Prince, the song Hilary Swank sang during the karaoke scene, “Breathe” by Michelle Branch, from the previews of PS I LOVE You, and “Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt, which I thought I already had but I needed for my small town soundtrack (which is the best soundtrack EVER, lemme tell you.)

We had free passes to the sneak preview of PS I LOVE YOU last night. We got to the theater about an hour before showtime (NOT my idea - I would have been there right after school, ya know?) and the line was scary long. There were about 4 security guards patrolling the line, looking for cell phones and any other electronic devices, including iPods! They made people take them back to their cars! Can you believe it? They did purse checks and wanded everyone, and during the movie 4 security guards were posted. We joked that we thought we were watching a movie, not getting on an airplane.

Anyway, the movie. You know how you look forward to something for so long and you end up being disappointed? (I mean, Gerry started making this movie back when I was regularly posting pictures of him!)

Well, I wasn't disappointed.

I cried a lot but it wasn't maudlin. I'm not a big Hilary Swank fan (okay, I'm not a fan at all) but I really felt her grief in this movie. She did such a good job. Gerry was his charming self, Harry Connick was hilarious and JDM made me proud.



While it was sad as an overall story, there was a lot of humor, too. The audience really liked it (though I wondered if they'd seen the previews, because they were laughing at everything that was in the previews.)

The story was told in a combination of real time and in flashbacks. It was very sweet and romantic, and when I see the movie again, I'm going to learn some of the lines that were just so insightful and moving.

I loved the mom, Kathy Bates, I loved the birthday party - though it had a bit of a kick in the gut emotionally - I loved the Ireland trip and there is one scene in there that made the whole movie for me. When you see it, you will know JUST what I'm talking about. I will definitely go see it again.

It was a hair long at just over 2 hours, and I felt some scenes could have been shorter, but overall it was fast-paced. It covered a little over a year, so I guess it needed that. But it was REALLY romantic and funny and sweet and sad but hopeful. Take tissues.

Yesterday I wanted to go to Beall's real quick to get a Christmas shirt like one of our teachers had, and to Hobby Lobby for some sequins and sparklies for ornaments.

Ended up at Borders for probably an HOUR. The boy has rediscovered books. You should hear his wish list - Ayn Rand, Victor Hugo, George Orwell. And he wants PRETTY books. You should have seen him with this $75 edition of Lord of the Rings. He lamented the fact that Ron Paul's book wasn't available, and that Borders is the last place people think to shop for gifts. Still, we walked out without buying anything.

I am up early to edit, even though all I want to do is work on my CA story.

And then last night I had this dream....a whole NEW idea!
