Ideas

Where do you get them and what do you do with them? I mean, when you can't get to them right away, but they're calling you.

I mostly get my ideas from dreams. That's where Surface came from, and my first book, and my "scary" book, a kind of a futuristic. Also my spy girl book that I will probably never get to write.

I get some from the news. That's where Hot Shot, Vanished, Heart of a Knight and Second Chances came from.

I get some from TV. My Antarctica book (saw something on the travel channel) and DLB (what happened to Jack Bauer after he faked his death) came from TV.

I have other ideas that are from movies, that I may eventually get to write when I escape revision hell. Others that are just what-if, like a type of job I think would be interesting to write.

Some, like the spy girl book, call to me. And writing on it is kind of a reward. If only I didn't need sleep....

Daydreams, television, and odly enough I have a tendancy to find titles then stories. go figure.

I get mine from dreams and asking "what if". :)

I don't have a problem coming up with ideas - my life has provided me with ample fodder - my problem is deciding which idea to run with next. How do you decide?

Oh, another cool post. I'll have to think about this and blog about where all my various ideas have come from (if I can remember!). I do think writers are a different sort in that we see things in two lights -- the way the rest of the world sees it and then how we can turn it into a story.

You know, I'm really not sure where my ideas come from. They just pop into my head. Sometimes dreams, sometimes things I've read about, but mostly I think they come from another planet. :)

Stacy, I think our subconscious is at work while we're sleeping. Phrases, though, that is interesting. Sometimes a line from a song will hit me just so.

Toni, I guess being inspired by the news is why you write RS!

Cece, really, the title first? I stink at titles, so that astounds me.

Tori, that "what if..." is a powerful tool, isn't it?

Mark, I usually (usually) pick the story that's the most developed to work on. Sometimes it's just the idea that cries the loudest.

Trish, isn't that the truth about writers twisting things to see how they can use them in a story. There's a recent news story here that kind of reflects Vanished, and so I'm collecting every bit of info I can find on it!

Michelle, so you get gifts, huh? I have a friend who just gets these stories - almost fully formed. Astounding.
