Writing Mentors
Do you have a writing mentor, someone you can turn to with questions of writing, of publishing? One of the most helpful people in that regard, for me and several SARAs, has been Delores Fossen, multi-published with HQ Intrigue. When I joined SARA, she was going through what I’m going through now, the rejections, the revisions, the frustration. But now she’s had maybe a dozen books published and is extremely generous with her time and knowledge.
Several of the Wet Noodle Posse are the same. Published authors willing to read for each other, and the unpubs, sharing information, even passing on recommendations to agents.
Do you have a mentor, or a group you can turn to for help? Where do you go?
You’ll probably be seeing a lot of Clooney pics – these revisions are kicking my butt.

You got some good Clooney pics. He's such a class act.
And Delores is 'da woman. She rocks.
Two of my mentors are Gayle Wilson and Debra Webb, both wonderful, prolific writers who are tireless when it comes to helping the unpublished members of our local RWA chapter. My friend Kristen Robinette has also been my biggest cheerleader, always ready with answers to my questions, especially as I go through the experiences of having sold my first book.
I've been in writers' groups (not romance writers) where the published authors keep a weird sort of godlike distance from the rest of us unwashed. I've never found that among romance writers, at least not in the chapters and groups I've been associated with.
I'm not sure if this woman calls herself my mentor, but she is. She's a new author, who is the queen on grammar. (seriously) Her name is Rachel Vincent and she rocks! rachelvincent.net
She's not only (in my eyes) my mentor, but a very dear friend.
Bless you, Stacy!! That's so sweet!
Paula, I've heard that about Gayle and Debra. That is so cool. I remember when I first got online, I went to the AOL message boards and Gayle was always around.
Dana, that's great that your mentor is also a good friend. That's a blessing.
Mar, for me, that would be you, and the critique group when I'm stuck. You guys have helped me more than anyone can imagine.
Hugs,
J
PS---post more George. I am in a George kinda mood lately. I know, I am cheating on Gerard... :)
I do have a mentor. I took an online class from her and ended up being the student that never went away...
Aww, thanks, JoAnn! You know, when I went from writing Gabe to writing Adrian, I felt like I was cheating on Gabe. And then last night I dreamed about Alex from Grey's Anatomy and I felt REALLY guilty!
April, LOL about the student who wouldn't go away!
Unfortunately no. I've got a few friends, but I don't belong to a writing group and I'm cp-less to boot.

I LOVE Delores. She was so nice to me in Reno. :)
No real mentors, but some good friends!
Delores is AWESOME.
Tanya, you don't have a chapter or anything? Dang, you've come a long way on your own, baby!
