5:30? Are you kidding me?
Yes, it's 5:30 and I'm up - isn't that the way it always is on the first day of vacation?
Even though I was home by 2 yesterday, it was the Longest Day!!! But my kids spoiled me as much as I spoiled them. I got 2 dozen tamales, a cookie jar, a candy dish, 2 Disney mugs filled with chocolate (Have you had the mint Hershey kisses and the Reeses peanut butter bells? YUM!), a Santa mug, a shower set with a loofah and all that, wall sconces, a Mickey snowglobe, a Christmas bear and candy.
Two of the teachers in my unit gave me the same thing - totally unplanned - those hazelnut pirouette cookies. My ds has been through half of one already! Another gave Bath and Body soap and a Christmas towel. The last one gave one of those cushy pillows, which I put to good use last night vegging in front of the TV.
I've got stuff to do today, though. I need to mail my cards (I know, I know), get the last of the gifts, wrap Cindi's boys' presents, go to Cindi's, watch Step Up and return it, do laundry, get started on cleaning my bedroom, roll out sugar plums, bake banana bread and blog at the Wet Noodle Posse. I'm talking about goals, so come chime in.

So how do you make those sugar plums? I'm intrigued!
Ah, sugar plums from Sugarland, not for the weak of heart!
2 c butter, softened
3 c sifted powdered sugar
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c cocoa
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 c golden seedless raisins
2 c rolled oats, uncooked
Mix butter, brown sugar and powdered sugar, cream till light and fluffy. Add cocoa and vanilla, stir in raisins and oats. Chill dough at least 2 hours (in my case, 3 days!) Break off pieces of dough to shape into one inch balls, and roll in tinted sugar. Make sure to keep them in the fridge!
I was up early yesterday...but was a slugabed today ('cause I didn't have to get the kids up for school!).
We're baking cookies today, and I have everything you named here so I'm going to try and make them. Thanks for the recipe.
Let me know how they turn out, Colleen! Last year the boy helped me roll them, so it didn't take as long. This morning it was almost 45 minutes!
I've judged two GH entries, watched Step Up, done two loads of laundry and rolled my sugar plums. We're about to go hootin and scootin, then home for a nap, then back to Cindi's for dinner.
Ooh, those sound so yummy! My mom just sent me a vat of her Christmas cookies, so I'm trying not to make any more, seeing as one can only eat so many Christmas cookies.
Enjoy your vacation, Mary!
Enjoy your 'holiday' my DD is still in school tomorrow. I sent her teacher chocolate truffle snowmen. She's skinny so I'm working on her ;)
Sounds like you had a great day! All the best of the holiday season to you, Mary!
Bosey
Tracy, what kind of cookies did you get? I told my brothers I didn't make the molasses cookies this year, and both were so disappointed. I didn't do sugar cookies, either.
Toni, that sounds like an awesome gift for your DD's teacher! Does Canada usually just get the week off?
Bosey, great to hear from you! I hope 2007 is your year!
