Collages
I finally got my new camera tonight!!! Though we're a bit peeved at the UPS man - didn't even ring the bell!
So I've been doing collages. After my last revision request for Hot Shot, I was so frustrated, I did one. It's kind of small, lots over overlapping.
I love this map.
Here's the one for Spy Girl.
I broke it down into locations. First, they went to Rio.
Then they went to Venice.
Then they went to Russia, where all hell broke loose.
My Ghost Hunters is a WIP.
I also broke it into locations.
Do you collage? Why do you do it?

Yes, I do them. I've done three so far. I've blogged about them too and posted pictures. They open my mind to possibilies and bring the story to life. Whenever I'm blocked, I look at them. In mine, I print my own pics, cut out fabric, paste jewelry, flowers, locks of hair from the beauty supply store, gloves ... etc---one time I printed a birth certificate and passport out (the character faked her own death). Whatever the muse moves me to do...
I've been thinking of doing a collage for the contemp I'm working on. I did one for Outlaw Bride and really enjoyed it. Really made you think about imagery and themes. It's still up on my desk leaned against the wall. But TOB is done now and it's...sniff...time to move on...
We've done them at our chapter retreat before. Everyone brings tons of magazines and we have them spread out all over tabletops and the floor, and everyone calls out thinks like "I need a wedding dress" or "I need a beach scene", and when someone finds it, they pass it on.
Okay, the birth certificate and passport sound really cool! The locks of hair....I've been tempted to get scrapbooking paper, but fabric would be cool, too!
Trish, that sounds fun to do at a retreat!
Kelly, TOB's collage sounds cool. I like collaging....it's not REALLY procrastinating!
I don't do them. I tried once and it just seemed to be forcing the issue. But yours are really neat to see!
Mary--great collages!! I do scrapbooks--not fancy ones, the kid kind. So I have pages of collage and pages of pasted in information. It's cool and fun :)
I do collage, and I really enjoy it. It's another creative outlet for me, and time that I spend subconsciously thinking about the book.
It always surprises me when I put something in the collage, and I don't know why, and then later it ends up being part of the book
Michelle, I had the same problem the first time I tried it, on Don't Look Back. It was ugly and just bleh. But after I kept getting revision notes on Hot Shot, I needed to focus the story, and I thought it was one way to do it. I really like the Spy Girl one best, though nothing has come up that I didn't expect.
Thanks, Toni!
Colleen, mine aren't nearly as right-brain as they should be. I'm not sure where I would get all the stuff to put on it. I go and get pics from the internet.
